    • Session Description: Over the past two decades, the diffusion of digital technologies to companies in non-technology sectors has created a hybrid economy, one in which companies have become increasingly digital-intensive organizations, changing their business models and their talent needs. Artificial intelligence’s (AI) pervasiveness across almost every company and sector’s long-term innovation strategies and the adoption of AI tools has enabled employees to shift to higher-order skills for many occupations and functions, increasing the need for T-shaped skills, such as learning agility, interpersonal skills, flexibility, creativity and good judgment, paired with technical literacy. Literacy in data science and analytics (DSA) and cybersecurity has also become a necessary skill set in many occupations, with the largest area of growth in the data-driven decision maker role, such as a product manager or business analyst. This has resulted in an explosion of demand for T-shaped employees in emerging fields and inclusion of key technical skills among the cross-cutting skills for success in the 21stcentury. The Business-Higher Education Forum (BHEF) brings together business and higher education leaders to articulate and translate this evolving need into new programs and pathways and national resources. Using BHEF’s Strategic Partnership Implementation Process, BHEF member institutions such as the Stevens Institute of Technology and The City University of New York are successfully equipping their students, providing employers with a source of talent, and serving as national examples for success in the hybrid economy. BHEF has been involved in the development of over 50 new programs in emerging fields, and numerous publications capturing and sharing best practices and models for adoption.
